Hot Water Services

Hot Water Back On, Without the Surprise Bill

Hot water is the one thing in the house nobody thinks about until it stops. Then it is a cold shower before work, a sink full of dishes you cannot get through, and a decision you have to make in a hurry with no idea what it should cost.

That is the part we try to take off you. We repair, service and replace electric, gas, solar and heat pump systems right across Brisbane, for homes and for businesses. Before anything starts you get a fixed price, so the number you agree to is the number on the invoice. There is a $0 call-out fee*, no hourly rate ticking over while we work out what is wrong, and no weekend rates if it fails on a Saturday.

Most of the time the news is better than people expect. A thermostat, a heating element or a failed valve will bring a system to a stop, and any of those can usually be sorted in a single visit. If the tank itself has gone, we will say so plainly rather than sell you a repair that buys a fortnight.

Where a replacement is the right call, the choice matters more than the brand. Electric storage is the cheapest to put in. Gas continuous flow will not run out halfway through a shower. Solar and heat pump cost more up front and less to run every year after that. We will talk you through what suits your roof, your household and your connection, and if the changeover involves gas it is handled by the same team that does our licensed gas fitting in Brisbane.

Every job is done by a QBCC licensed plumber, licence 15578913, and backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee. We clean up before we leave. One team, one price, and hot water that works the way it should.

Not every swap is like for like. Moving from an electric tank to gas continuous flow means new gas and water lines and a different mounting position, and going the other way frees up wall space but needs the circuit checked. Heat pumps need airflow around them and are not happy boxed into a cupboard. Tight side access, a unit on a roof, or a tank sitting inside the house all change the job.

We look at where yours actually is before quoting, so the price accounts for the install and not just the appliance. If there is other work you have been putting off while we are on site, a dripping tap or a slow drain, we will price it in with our general plumbing repairs and maintenance rather than charge you a second visit.

Types of Hot Water Systems We Install

There is no single best system, only the one that suits your connection, your roof and how many people are in the shower each morning. Here is what we install across Brisbane and who each one actually suits.

Electric Storage

The cheapest to buy and install, and the simplest to replace like for like. Heats overnight and stores it, so a small tank in a busy house will run out.

Gas Storage

Reheats faster than electric and keeps working in a blackout. Needs a gas connection and clearance around the flue, so placement matters more than people expect.

Gas Continuous Flow

Heats water as it passes through, so it does not run out mid-shower and takes up no floor space. Sized by how many outlets you want running at once.

Solar Hot Water

Roof collectors plus a tank, with electric or gas backup for a run of grey days. Cheapest to run once it is in, and it needs the right roof pitch and orientation.

Heat Pump

Pulls warmth from the air rather than heating with an element. Very cheap to run, needs airflow around the unit, and is not happy shut inside a cupboard.

Commercial Systems

Cafes, salons, offices and small industrial sites. Sized around peak demand rather than average use, so the busiest hour still has hot water.

Our Hot Water Services

Honest quote, fast response, and a lifetime guarantee on the workmanship. That is the whole deal.

Six things make up most of what we do on hot water, and they cover a unit from the day it goes on the wall to the day it comes off. Whether you need one of them or all six over the years, it is the same licensed team and the same fixed-price approach each time.

Hot Water Installation

New systems sized to how much hot water your household or site actually uses, not to what happens to be in stock.

Hot Water Repairs

Lukewarm water, leaks, tripping breakers or no hot water at all. We diagnose the fault before quoting the fix.

System Replacement

Old unit out, new unit in, and the compliance paperwork lodged afterwards so the replacement is on the record.

Servicing & Maintenance

A yearly check on the anode, valves and thermostat, so the unit reaches the end of its life instead of failing early.

Tempering Valve Work

Supply and replacement of the valve that keeps your bathroom taps at a safe temperature while the tank stores hotter.

Emergency Hot Water

No hot water on a work night, or a tank leaking through the ceiling. Call us and we will get someone to you.

Signs Your Hot Water System Is Failing

Hot water systems rarely fail without warning. Catching the signs early usually means a repair instead of a replacement, and a repair on a Tuesday instead of a cold shower on Sunday night. Here is what to watch for around the unit and at the tap.

If two or three of those sound familiar, book a look before it turns into a replacement. A tank that is warning you is still a tank you can save. Hot water is one part of what we do, and you can see the rest of our full range of plumbing and gas services.

Common Hot Water Problems We Get Called For

Most calls come down to one of six faults. Knowing which one you are looking at is the difference between a part and a whole new unit, and it is why we test before we quote rather than the other way around.

No Hot Water at All

Usually a tripped circuit, a failed element or thermostat on electric, or a pilot and ignition fault on gas. Often a same-visit repair.

Not Enough Hot Water

The tank is undersized for the household, an element has partly failed, or sediment is taking up space that should hold water.

A Leaking Tank

Water pooling under the unit usually means the cylinder has rusted through from the inside. A leaking cylinder cannot be repaired, only replaced.

Water Too Hot

Scalding at the tap normally points to a tempering valve that has failed or was never fitted. A real burns risk with young children in the house.

Rusty or Smelly Water

Discoloured water points to a spent sacrificial anode. A rotten egg smell is bacteria in the tank, and both are worth acting on early.

Banging & Rumbling

Sediment on the base of the cylinder boiling under the burner or element. Noisy, inefficient, and a sign the tank has never been serviced.

Get More Years Out of Your System

Most tanks die early because nobody ever looked at them. The sacrificial anode wears out, the relief valve seizes, and sediment settles on the bottom of the cylinder. A yearly service catches all three while they are still cheap to deal with, which is a lot less painful than a full replacement you did not budget for.

Hot Water for Homes & Businesses

A three-bedroom house and a busy cafe need very different systems, and we size accordingly. Residential work is mostly storage tanks and continuous flow units. Commercial sites bring higher demand, more fixtures to feed, and temperature rules that are stricter than a home’s. We will tell you what applies to your site before we quote it.

How a Hot Water Job Runs

No mystery about what happens after you call. Six steps, the same every time, so you know where the job is up to and what it will cost before anyone starts pulling a unit off the wall.

1. You Call

Tell us what the system is doing and how many people it has to supply. We book a real arrival window rather than a whole day.

2. We Look

We test the unit on site and work out whether it is a part, the tank, or the way the system was installed in the first place.

3. Fixed Price in Writing

You get the options, a recommendation and one fixed price before anything starts. The call-out to get to this point is $0*.

4. We Do the Work

Most repairs are finished in the same visit. Replacements include removing the old unit and taking it away with us.

5. We Test & Show You

We run the system up, check the temperature at the tap and walk you through what was done before we pack up.

6. Paperwork & Guarantee

You get the compliance record lodged where it needs to be, plus our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee on the work itself.

Book Your Hot Water Service Today

Same-day service guaranteed, or you get $65 off your job. Tell us what it is doing and we will book you a real arrival window, not a whole day of waiting.

How much does it cost to replace a hot water system in Brisbane?

It depends on the type and size. A like-for-like electric storage swap sits at the cheaper end, continuous flow gas costs more to install, and heat pumps cost the most up front while running cheapest. Hot water work with us starts from $99, and you get a fixed price covering the unit, the install and the paperwork before you agree to anything. If you want a number for your place, request a call back.

As a rule of thumb, a storage tank lasts about 8 to 12 years, and a continuous flow unit often reaches 15 to 20. Servicing moves that number more than anything else. Storage tanks fail from the inside out once the sacrificial anode is gone, so the anode is the thing worth checking. We will test the unit, tell you what condition it is actually in, and quote either way.

Start with what is already connected, because that decides most of it. If there is no gas at the property, adding it changes the cost of a gas unit considerably. Roof space and orientation decide whether solar stacks up. Household size decides whether a tank will keep up or whether continuous flow makes more sense. Tell us how many people are in the house and how they use hot water, and we will give you the options and a recommendation, not an ultimatum.

Usually the tank is too small for the household, or the thermostat has dropped, or the element has partly failed so it is heating slowly. Sediment in the bottom of the cylinder takes up volume too. It is worth having checked before you assume you need a bigger unit, because a repair is often the actual answer.

On a new heated water installation, yes. AS/NZS 3500.4 requires no more than 50°C at bathroom fixtures, while the tank has to store at 60°C or above to keep Legionella down. A tempering valve is what reconciles those two numbers. Childcare, schools, aged care and healthcare drop to 45°C. If yours is missing or seized, we can supply and fit one.

The QBCC does. Replacing a water heater is notifiable work under the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018, so it has to be recorded with the QBCC on a Form 4 within 10 business days of the invoice. We lodge it. If a plumber replaces your system and never mentions that, you should be asking why.

Repair if the fault is a part and the cylinder is sound. Replace if the tank itself is leaking, because a leaking cylinder cannot be repaired. We check the anode, the element, the thermostat and the valves, then tell you which side of that line you are on and price both where both are possible.

Still not sure what your hot water system needs?

Call and describe what it is doing. You will get an honest read on whether it is a repair or a replacement before anyone comes out.
